• Is Smoked Salamon Bagel for Breakfast Healthy?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that’s why many people pay special attention to what they eat in the morning. There are numerous foods that can be considered healthy and safe to eat in the morning, but fish is a guaranteed hit, which is why we are going to focus on one of the tastiest dishes you can eat for breakfast – bagel with smoked salmon.

Salmon is an excellent choice for multiple reasons, mostly because it’s rich in antioxidants, and it’s an amazing source of protein, minerals and vitamins – all of which are essential elements for a great start early in the morning.

Is Salmon Bagel Healthy?

The short answer is – yes, it is. However, many people are worried about the amount of sugar intake in the morning and whether their breakfast contains enough protein, vitamins, and minerals to keep them energized throughout the morning. In the case of smoked salmon bagel, the balance between proteins, sugar, minerals, and vitamins is excellent, and you can rest assured it’s going to keep you energized until lunchtime.

How does one make this meal? Well, the great thing about smoked salmon breakfast bagel is that it’s simple to make, and more importantly – it’s a relatively affordable meal meaning you don’t have to worry about budgeting.

Here’s one of our favorite recipes:

  • Ingredients
  • 2 bagels
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp. cream cheese (bonus points for vegan cheese)
  • 1 tomato
  • Onion
  • 2-3 slices of smoked salmon
  • Lemon (optional)
  • Salt and pepper

Salamon Bagel

  • Instructions

Slice the bagels and toast both sides. If you’re not a fan of crunchy bagels, you can skip the toasting part, but we highly recommend you to try this particular version.

Use a non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook scrambled eggs. Once they are done, remove the pan from the heat and set it aside.

Spread the cream cheese over both halves of the bagel. Top off the bottom half of the bagel with scrambled eggs and spread the cream cheese over the other half of the bagel. You can use cream cheese for both halves, but it can be too much for some people. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide whether to use cheese for both sides.

Spread the slices of smoked salmon over the scrambled eggs. This is the moment where lemon juice comes into play. Some people love to dress the salmon slices with lemon juice in a small mixing bowl, but it’s not a mandatory step. If you aren’t a fan of slightly acidic taste, don’t marinate the salmon slices in lemon juice.

Spread sliced tomato, onions, and salmon over the scrambled eggs (bottom half of the bagel) and sprinkle pepper and salt over it. Put the top half of the bagel over, and voila, you’re done!

Variations and Additional Ingredients

The recipe we’ve covered is more or less a perfect balance between nutritional values, taste, and complexity. Naturally, you can add or take out some ingredients from the recipe, but keep in mind that it will affect the balance of taste and calories, sometimes even drastically depending on how much you add or remove.

For instance, adding sliced cucumbers or olives will not drastically change the balance, but it will change the taste. As long as you’re adding healthy stuff like vegetables (or even fruit!), your breakfast should be sufficiently nutritional to keep you energized until lunchtime.
